In 2012, approximately 6% of all children, ages 3-17, were diagnosed with depression. This rate has been steadily climbing. It is always difficult to get help, In some cases it may seem bad or weird to tell people your problems. It can be difficult when people don’t understand depression. What happens if the people around you don’t understand it, what if they say you need to ¨Be happier¨. These reasons, as well as many others, are the reason that teens and others who have depression don’t, or are too scared to get help. Those short statistics that were stated earlier show how many teens were diagnosed with depression and anxiety. Imagine how many people have mental illnesses and were not diagnosed. Imagine how many individuals aren't getting the help they need.
We made this film to highlight how mental illness is a struggle, and it’s not always easy to admit you need help. We wanted to show someone struggling with depression and his journey to getting help because it’s not easy. We wanted to show the mentality that some people have of “It will go away,” and “I’ll snap out of it,” which isn’t true, we wanted to show why people should seek out help. We wanted this film to have an extreme emotional impact. We hinted at a part of this with the dulled colors and added a hint of blue. We wanted to not only portray the emotion with the acting and story, but as well with the visuals we added in. We believed this was an important topic for us to choose because mental health is something that affects us more than ever now, and we need to stand together and reach out to help those in need.
