In the 1300s the plague hit Asia and Europe, well known as the bubonic plague or the black death. The bubonic plague hit Europe in 1347. The plague was brought on ships from the fleas on rats that carried the disease. These ships were known as the “death ships.” Through the pandemic, there were many strange cures people believed to work for the plague such as, drinking vinegar, bathing/drinking urine, consuming crushed emeralds, drinking 10-year-old treacle, the list goes on. The infected had symptoms such as, fever, chills, vomiting, diarrhea, aches and pains, and plague boils, which are known as buboes.
The film was based on how people lived through the black plague, and we used the slice of life that is boarding a ship to demonstrate this. Our group integrated modern comedy into the historic setting and theme of our film. We mostly used editing as a way to show the comedic elements in our film, instead of fully representing comedy through the script or acting. However, comedy is definitely still incorporated in, and runs through the script and acting.
