Life in the Pandemic: A Short Documentary
Directed by Emily F. , Written by Nathan P. , Edited by Zach F.
Starring Calvin F., Kate W., Gia B., Avery W.
With there being 30.7 million small businesses, representing over 90% of total businesses, small businesses make up a large, essential part of our society, and bring us together in our neighborhoods. As bigger entities like Amazon and Walmart begin to take over, we start to lose the heart and soul of those communities, to faster, cheaper service. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many communities suffered the loss of countless small businesses, with Covid rendering over 31% of small businesses non-operational. It seems that just now we are starting to realize how important they really are. The business owners who have managed to stay on their feet to this point in the pandemic have worked hard for it, and we attempt to get an insider’s perspective on what it takes, and the essential roles they play in our communities.
This documentary highlights the importance of small businesses to their communities and the struggles of small businesses during the current pandemic. With this documentary, we wanted to capture the essence and importance of small businesses. We wanted people to realize how much small businesses are apart of our lives, along with bringing light to the struggles of small businesses during the global pandemic. We hope that by looking through the perspective of 3 small business owners, viewers will be able to learn and gain empathy for small businesses in their communities and all over the country.
