The Cold War took place after WWII between 1947-1991. During this time, multiple conflicts were the space race that took place from 1957-1960 and the Vietnam war that took place from 1961- 1975. During WWII, the U.S. and the Soviet Union were Allies against the Axis powers. After the victory over them, Harry S. Truman, Josef Stalin, and Winston Churchill held a meeting entailing the reformation of Europe, and that they agreed Stalin and his Russian Soviet Union would be in charge of eastern Europe. However, Stalin had different plans for reformation, and turned half of Europe, Iran, and Greece into communist countries, turning them into political and militaristic puppets. This is exactly what the UK and US feared, the spread of communism and because of it the Cold War was born. During this war there were many proxy wars with the biggest one being the Vietnam War. This war never had a declared winner because the United States left the war which then led to Russia taking over which technically meant they won that war. There was also lots of competition with one being the space race. During this race Russia was the first to make it to space with America being the first to make it onto the moon. Life in the Cold War wasn't too bad, most citizens were happy and living successful lives but some were paranoid and feared Soviet invasion or a nuclear war. During that time children that went to school had to “duck and cover” for drills at schools because of possible bombings, and this very quickly started to become a norm. The Cold War is significant due to it greatly affecting the history of the twentieth century without the cold war the world would be much different than the normal world we have here. Because of the Space Race it introduced us to space travel that could have been thought as bizarre. This and much more affected our lives today, and it could have been much different if nothing had happened.
For our film we realized that the United States and Russia acted as children during the Cold War so our film became about the U.S. and Russia having a childish argument that could destroy the world. That’s what the whole team agreed upon. A comedy about two powerhouses arguing about something ridiculous. When writing the script it was at first difficult to write in a child's perspective, but with help and collaboration from the group we were able to pull it off. For the costume aspect, we decided to just go for a simple type of costume. The actors made name tags out of paper and wrote the country name and the colors on the paper, we did this so that it made it seem like kids did it. The editor put the video together well. All the footage was put together in order and the final product was clean. The actors made the footage well and they got help from family members to film. Overall the production was smooth with small obstacles along the way, we felt that we created something that people can enjoy and learn from no matter how homemade this movie may be.
