Our film is a mockumentary made to poke fun at the different ways individuals react to the Coronavirus quarantine. We wanted to make relatable characters that could accurately depict the mental struggle that comes along with being stuck at home for months on end. We chose to have our actors play a working mom, a teacher, and a quarantined boy so we can see a variety of reactions amongst a variety of people. We are all in very similar situations right now, so we wanted to use our personal experience to our advantage. Having the characters think the quarantine is only going to last a few weeks is something I know a lot of us experienced during the start of the pandemic. We added that bit in so whoever’s watching the film can accurately experience the pandemic as we all have. We also knew we wanted to add some humor. This way we can lighten the mood and it doesn't feel like three strangers complaining on their couch the whole film. To achieve this, we added some jokes and bits. We knew doing a mockumentary style video would be difficult, and had the potential to get boring having three characters talk to the camera the whole time. To combat this we added a few action scenes. Having our characters get up and make a cup of coffee or playing video games isn't uncommon in our film. Overall the film is a slow progression of our three characters losing their minds throughout the pandemic. The interviews start relatively normal, showing the three characters go about their everyday life while answering questions about the pandemic. This eventually progresses into one of our characters having a full mental breakdown and rocking back and forth on his floor. Meanwhile the mom is snapping at her kids and the quarantined boy, Mark, goes about his everyday life as usual. We choose to include Mark one of the less relatable characters, to show someone who hasn't been affected by the virus. This way the film doesn't feel repetitive seeing similar reactions from the characters.
People in quarantine have had a lot of different perspectives over the last few months, some have seen quarantine as something not out of the ordinary(IE Shut-ins, or introverts) others have had a slow fall into madness by seeing quarantine as something that’ll “end next month” as they say and these people were the first ones to break under pressure. Well our film is very lighthearted and utilizes humor, we do touch on some heavier topics as well. CDC statistics taken between April and June of 2020 reports 40.9% of respondents experiencing at least one adverse mental or behavioral health condition, including symptoms of anxiety disorder or depressive disorder related to the pandemic. Our film briefly touches on these mental health struggles and how they can worsen during the pandemic. The last character we chose was the person who had a decent fall into understanding and being able to live with what is happening around them and pull their lives together after a while.
